Sport
Sport plays a significant part in the life of all our pupils, providing the opportunity to express themselves physically while also developing camaraderie, leadership skills and teamwork. Our girls play netball, hockey and cricket, while our boys play rugby, football and cricket as the main team sports, but there are many other sports on offer, from rowing and athletics to basketball and fencing, more details of which are included in the termly list of co-curricular activities.
We aim to offer everyone the chance to represent the school in competitive matches, ranging from elite performers at national level to those who prefer their sport to be more recreational. We often compete against much bigger schools with a great deal of success and we adapt our fixture programme to ensure that matches are as competitive as possible.
We have wide-ranging links with outside agencies to enhance what we can offer to our pupils. Recent examples include London Scottish RFC; Believe Perform (Sports Psychology); MINT coaching and Lions Sports Academy (Player Development); Twickenham Rowing Club and St Mary’s University.
Our pupils have recorded success across a number of sports, celebrating individual and team successes in athletics (Middlesex Combined Events Champion and ISA national representation), diving (national champion), football (academy and ISFA team selection), hockey (Middlesex and South of England representation), rugby (academy and Middlesex representation) and rowing (Great Britain representation and national champions).
The school makes extensive use of high-quality local facilities at St Mary’s University, Teddington Cricket Club, Teddington Swimming Pool and Twickenham Rowing Club, and we have our own multi-use hall onsite for indoor activities such as basketball, badminton and cricket nets, as well as a netball and tennis court in Grotto Road.
We run a programme of sports tours overseas and in the UK, with opportunities to test our skills against a wide range of opponents. Recent trips have visited Lisbon, Barcelona and Shropshire, with plans to go to Paris in April 2024.
